THE CFP® DIFFERENCE

Finding a skilled financial planner can be overwhelming and confusing, but there is a distinction between those that call themselves “financial planners” and those that qualify as CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professionals.  The certification process is a rigorous one that requires a great deal of time, commitment, education and experience.  Aaron Archambo and Mark Archambo have both met the demanding requirements to be called CFP® professionals.

On average it takes from 12-18 months to meet the coursework requirement needed to sit for the CFP® exam.  The coursework must come from a CFP Board Registered Program.  A bachelor’s degree or higher, from an accredited college or university, must also be attained either before or within 5 years after passing the exam.  The exam consists of answering 170 questions over two 3-hour sessions in one day, where one must successfully demonstrate comprehensive knowledge in financial planning, tax planning, risk management, retirement planning, and estate planning.  In March of 2020, the pass rate for the exam was 63%.

Experience is also vital in the role to becoming certified.  This can be accomplished by completing 6,000 hours of professional experience related to the professional planning process, or 4,000 hours of apprenticeship experience.  This must be completed within 10 years before or 5 years after successful completion of CFP® exam.

Lastly, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professionals are held to high ethical standards.  By this, we adhere to a standard that requires us to act as a fiduciary, meaning we always put our clients’ interests first.  In a business where trust is the foundation of our relationships, having someone put your interests above their own helps to put your mind at ease.

Working with a CFP® professional means you will be working with someone who has demonstrated a commitment to high standards of financial planning. Both Aaron and Mark know the value in demonstrating high professional standards, and that becoming CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professionals is the best way to provide expert financial planning advice to all the clients at Archambo Financial Advisors.
